What is ROAR?

Readers On A Rampage

ROAR is a program developed and launched in 2019, now in partnership with Just Right Books and Lexington District 1 schools to support the teachers and children involved in RTI. We are focused on advocating for literacy and making a positive impact on the lives of these children.

Originating in Rocky Creek and Red Bank Elementaries, Dr. Kris Gillaspy (Coordinator of ESOL and RTI) asked that we expand this program. We are now working with reading Interventionists in 14 Lexington 1 elementary schools and, with your help, will soon grow to ALL 18 Lexington 1 elementary schools!

There is no cost to the children or to the school. Individual and corporate donations are funding this project.

Each school has an individual ROAR volunteer contact person who will be meeting with teachers from “their” school to select books for each child. The books will be appropriate for each child’s reading level and interests. The books have a sticker inside so that each child will have ownership of his/her books.

On the date and time of the school visit, the volunteer will discuss the objectives of ROAR and the magic of reading. We can go anywhere and be anyone by finding Just Right Books!

Our volunteer will then read to the students. We emphasize to them that if they think they don’t like reading, they just haven’t found the right book. After the volunteer reads, each child will be given their books to take home.

Thank you for your willingness to support ROAR. We are READERS ON A RAMPAGE!!!
